A blaze early Monday morning on Talbot Line, just west of Tillsonburg remains under investigation.
The fire began in a trailer parked at Legend Rubber.
Bayham Fire and Emergency Services were first on the scene around 4:30 a.m. but as the fire spread to a storage area and a second trailer, firefighters from Tillsonburg, Almer, Norfolk County, Malahide and Central Elgin responded.
The fire was brought under control around 7 a.m. although a hot spot was discovered Monday evening and firefighters returned.
Bayham Fire Chief Harry Baranik noted because of the nature of this fire and the significant plume of black smoke, the Ministry of Environment was contacted and attended. Ministry staff were satisfied that the runoff from the fire was contained in a clay lined storm pond and gave instructions for the safe removal of the water.
Damage is expected to be in the $1 million range and no injuries were reported.
The Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office determined the investigation will remain with the Bayham Fire and Emergency Services.
