Details have now been released following the fatal hit and run in the city early Saturday.
As myFM first shared, a 34-year-old St. Thomas resident was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Sunset Road and Fingal Line around 1:20 a.m. and later died in hospital.
St. Thomas Police held a media briefing Thursday, where Chief Marc Roskamp provided an update.
Roskamp notes that a number of police resources were activated at that point, to not only investigate the criminal actions of the fleeing vehicle but identify the driver.
With the assistance of the Chatham-Kent Police Service, John Charles Michael McLellan was arrested and made a court appearance this morning.
The 35-year-old of Thamesville has been charged with Fail to stop at scene of accident causing death and Two counts of Operation while Prohibited.
Sgt. Matt Lobsinger with the Criminal Investigations Branch also spoke to the media- taking the time to thank the community for their assistance.
Adding that he has one more ask for residents.
The Chief stressed that “this is the type of crime that has no place in our city and we will extend all resources to ensure that Mr. McLellan is held accountable for his actions.”
