As Ontario growers head to the fields this spring, farmers are being asked to be drift aware
Ontario’s farming community is taking proactive steps to address spray drift concerns this year with the introduction of Be Drift Aware.
“Each of our organizations has shared best practice resources with our grower members over the years, and now we have pooled that information for easy access in a single location,” says Marty Vermey, senior agronomist, Grain Farmers of Ontario.
Developed through a partnership among leading farm organizations, this initiative aims to educate growers about the risks associated with pesticide drift.
BeDriftAware.ca serves as a centralized resource hub where farmers can access essential information and tools to mitigate drift issues.
“This campaign is an important next step to reach growers with information ranging from spray drift basics to sprayer settings and nozzle selection to truly drop the risk as low as possible,” says Brian Rideout, crop protection chair, Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association.
By following key best practices like “be height aware” and “be wind aware,” growers can safeguard their crops, reduce environmental impact, and foster responsible farming practices.
