As we all know, many factors have been considered with the upcoming solar eclipse on Monday.
Schools have been closed for the day, workplaces are making accommodations and local municipalities have even had to put some road closures in place.
This includes in the village of Port Stanley where residents and visitors alike are expected to flock to take in this once in a life time opportunity.
Whether you’re local or making the trip down to Port, this will be key to keep in mind…
-The Port Stanley Visitor Centre, located at 199 Carlow Road, opens at 9:30 and will be handing out eclipse viewers while supplies last, as well as providing maps of Port Stanley and other tourism information for our beautiful area.
-The Lift Bridge will remain down from noon to 6 p.m. to accommodate road traffic.
-Hawk Cliff will be closed for the day. There will be a roadblock at Dexter Line westbound and Hawk Cliff Road southbound.
-Sparta Line will be closed to northbound traffic at Union Road south of the bridge.
-Warren Street will be closed.
-East Street will be closed in order to serve as an emergency vehicle route.
-Traffic on the west side of the Village must exit via Carlow Road to Union Road.
-Traffic on the east side of the Village must exit via Sunset Drive.
These measures will be supported by Elgin County OPP and are in place between noon and 6 p.m. Please be patient and prepared in the event of traffic delays and potentially long idling times.
The Municipality of Central Elgin does note that closed roads will still be open to local traffic.
