A Festive RIDE check conducted by Elgin County OPP early Wednesday morning in Malahide has resulted in charges for a 27-year-old St. Thomas man.
Police note that at approximately 12:25 a.m., a vehicle attempted to avoid the checkpoint on Colin Street near Levi Street, but was later stopped to checked the driver’s sobriety.
A roadside screening test registered a fail, at which time the driver was taken into custody and transported to the Elgin County Detachment for further testing.
As a result Jordan Speirs has been charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) and Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor.
The 27-year-old was handed a 90-day Administrative Driver’s License Suspension and a seven-day Vehicle Impoundment was initiated.
The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court in January.
