Ontario is considering introducing an enhanced road test for drivers over 80 years old, according to the auditor general’s report issued this week.
Currently, the licence renewal process for those in that age bracket involves an education session that tests their vision and has them draw a clock to measure their cognitive abilities.
But the report says ministry research shows more than a third of drivers over 80 who passed the clock-drawing test couldn’t pass a road test.
The auditor says the research recommended an enhanced road test instead, and the ministry is considering doing that for 2026.
