Today myFM is celebrating local coaches and the impact they’ve had on the St. Thomas-Elgin Community with our Hooray for Coaches Day feature, presented by Kenny Insurance Brokers.
For Joe Doyle, Assistant coach of the St. Thomas Jr. B Stars and President of the St. Thomas Minor Hockey Association, his love for the sport just never died.
And with 10 years of coaching already under his belt, it’s that same passion for the game he’s always had that keeps him going.
Doyle now enters his 4th minor hockey season as President, after spending roughly 6 additional years on the board. So it’s fairly evident that Doyle must get some sort of joy out of giving back to the next generation of hockey players.
With the game always changing and evolving, something Doyle finds challenging to remember sometimes is that we all have to “adjust to today’s society.”
Though Doyle has spent many hours in local arenas, coaching a number of different age groups, a specific team stands out in Doyle’s mind when he looks back on his accomplishments as a coach.
As far as the advice he has for future coaches, Doyle says “just get out and try it because you’ll never look back”.
