A 39-year-old St. Thomas man has been charged with attempted murder in a case of domestic violence Tuesday afternoon at a 341 Talbot Street apartment.
His partner, a 24-year-old female is in hospital with life-threatening injuries. The quick action of police officers is being credited with saving her life.
Police say the two were involved in an altercation earlier in the afternoon, that led to the shooting and the man fleeing the scene.
He was apprehended a short time later on Hiawatha Street.
James Alexander Brown has also been charged with:
- Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order
- Possession of a loaded firearm
- Carrying a concealed weapon
St. Thomas Police Service Corporate Communications Coordinator Samantha Wakefield told myFM additional charges may be pending.
She added while police were continuing their investigation Wednesday, forensic investigators found the body of a dog in the apartment.
It is suspected to have suffered gun-shot wounds. St. Thomas Police will consult with Forensic Veterinarian Services to determine cause of death.
Wakefield expects officers to be at the scene again Thursday.

This is the city’s second shooting this year. On Jan. 7, an 18-year-old male was shot inside the family home on Palm Street.
Police have not laid charges at this time.
