It’s “The Fundraisers” Day on 94.1 myFM presented by Jackpot Time St. Thomas.
Today we’re shining a light on five individuals or groups who have made a name for themselves through incredible fundraising initiatives that continue to benefit our community.
The $1.6 million funding announcement was made in September of 2019, and this summer work is expected to begin on Hospice of Elgin.
It is to be a 10-bed compassionate end-of-life community to serve St. Thomas and all of Elgin county.
A fundraising campaign is to officially kick off shortly under the leadership of Al Hughson of Williams Funeral Home.
He stresses the importance of looking at a hospice as a necessity and not a luxury.
Hughson adds we live in a giving community and he is confident people will step up quickly once the fundraising campaign begins.
In particular, Hughson points to the generosity of the corporate community in St. Thomas and Elgin, in particular the management and employees at Ford Canada’s St. Thomas Assembly Plant and Canadian Timken.
The much-needed palliative care facility will overlook Waterworks Park.
Hospice of Elgin is expected to provide care to over 500 individuals and families each year. It will feature private suites with 24/7 expert care in a welcoming, home-like setting.
Hughson has participated in numerous fundraising activities and he confesses he is inspired by those volunteers who participate in such campaigns.
