As myFM has previously shared, the city of St. Thomas has been designated as the site of German auto giant Volkswagen’s first overseas gigafactory.
Residents will finally get more details on the deal tomorrow as both Premier Doug Ford and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will be in St. Thomas to welcome Volkswagen and PowerCo to Ontario.
It is known that both the federal and provincial governments put money on the table to lure Volkswagen to the railway city, but until now neither have disclosed exactly how much.
Federal Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry Francois-Philippe Champagne says the contract is potentially worth more than 13-billion dollars over the next 10 years.
He’ll join Ford, Trudeau, and Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade at the announcement tomorrow, where details such as the number of jobs created are expected to be shared.
