The OVer Company started because of a need I had back in the beginning of 2015. I had my second daughter at 32 weeks gestation and after our 5 week long stay in the NICU, we brought our 5 lb. baby out of the hospital into the cold germ-filled outside world. I then realized I needed more than just the blanket I was using to keep my tiny baby protected from it all. I got to work and created the first OVer which worked beautifully as the much-needed car seat cover for sweet little Olive. The OVer quickly became the one item I never left home without. After months of requests from those around me to make the OVers, The OVer Company was officially launched in October 2015. My husband Michael encouraged me to turn this little hobby into a business and follow my creativity. He came alongside me after 8 months, making this side-hustle a full time career for both him and I.
In 2016, after hosting The OVer Company’s first birthday party pop-up event with 1,000 people in attendance, we realized we had an incredible community of moms surrounding us that wanted to support small business! In 2017, we took a leap and went head first into hosting the very first TMMS event – The Modern Mom Show. We brought together the best of the best Canadian small businesses and host a FUN and instagrammable event that was very successful. Since 2017, The Modern Mom Show is held every June and November. Once we moved The OVer Company warehouse to St Thomas in January 2023, we started looking at venues in the area to host our event. We are so excited to bring “TMMS” to St Thomas this June 2+3 at Joe Thornton Arena and really let St Thomas know what we are all about – Community, Relationship and having fun!
Michael and I have grown these businesses together, and work closely with the amazing team we have around us at The OVer Company and The Modern Mom Show. Our products are 100% manufactured in London, ON and we source as many supplies and material as possible locally, because we know first hand the value shopping local has in our community.
I am a mom of 3 amazing children who are truly the reason behind what we do. We are parents and see the gaps, and try to fill them. We are creators and big thinkers. Giving back to our community is a core value of ours and always will be. As a family and business, we give back to the Ronald McDonald House Charity in London, ON who has helped us when we were most vulnerable. We love what we do and although running multiple small businesses isn’t easy – and often presents challenges and hurdles to overcome, we are living our most fulfilling life and creating something very special as a family.
