Mistyglen has been operating a 50-cow robotic family-run dairy farm with the addition and opening of the new processing facility located on the farm in June 2022. They use their quality milk to process and sell in their on-farm retail store at Mistyglen Creamery.
Kris was born and raised on a farm in Chatham-Kent, and it has always been a goal to come home and participate full-time on the farm; however, this required more diversification. The Creamery allows Kris to use her medical background (Registered Nurse) for product innovation and be around people, which is why she became a nurse. The Creamery is currently processing minimally processed whole milk, chocolate milk, seasonal flavoured milk, cheese curds, flavoured cheese curds and venturing into yogurt with probiotics.
One of Kris’ favourite parts of the business is building relationships with her customers and partnerships with other local companies. But creating healthy dairy products with beneficial nutrients and good calories is another high point!
Kris loves seniors, spending much of her nursing career in specialized geriatric services and dementia care. Fun fact, she became a nurse to work with individuals with dementia and finds their presence calming and relaxing. She aims to build a seniors program on the farm, including dementia day programs. Kris loves being around animals daily and can now work towards integrating farming and nursing! Don’t forget “The best dog in the world,” her best friend and love for the German Shepherd Breed, Mensa!
Much of the success thus far goes to the ongoing support and help from her husband (Tom) and two beautiful daughters (Maddie & Kadie), both leaning heavily towards agriculture careers following high school.
