The countdown is on at the St. Thomas Fire Department.
In less than a month they will take delivery of their new 100-foot aerial truck now receiving the finishing touches at the Wisconsin manufacturer.
With new high-rise developments in the works for St. Thomas, Fire Chief Dave Gregory explains how the new vehicle will be utilized and fill the need.
Several firefighters will head to Wisconsin early next month for final inspection and then drive the vehicle back to St. Thomas by mid-March.
Gregory tells myFM the vehicle replaces a 20-year-old truck that must come out of service.
Ordered two years ago, the city’s newest fire-fighting vehicle will arrive at the fire hall in less than a month.
The price of the 100-foot aerial truck is just over a million dollars, but to buy the same vehicle today, advises Gregory, try doubling the price.
Gregory says it is a matter of the department being proactive with new equipment and training firefighters involved with the aerial truck.
