When the Indwell affordable housing project on Queen Street opens this year, the city’s Homelessness Prevention and Housing Programs Coordinator says tenants will be drawn from the homeless community.
Danielle Neilson anticipates the 45-unit complex opening early this summer.
In November of last year, Neilson reminded city council the solution to homelessness is housing and housing with supports.
Neilson tells myFM the tenant selection process with homeless individuals will begin very shortly.
With the opening of additional housing units, Neilson says it is her intention for the community to not need all of the resources currently in place to respond to homelessness in the future.
Indwell, a Christian-based charity that has built supportive housing for more than 700 individuals in London, Woodstock, Simcoe and Hamilton
Neilson expects to see a significant reduction in the numbers of homeless individuals locally as soon as Indwell is able to open their doors on Queen Street.
