A wild mix of weather is on tap for Christmas weekend.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for St. Thomas and Elgin County warning of a significant winter storm starting late Thursday.
Precipitation may begin as rain or snow late Thursday before transitioning to rain in many areas early Friday. However, temperatures are then expected to plummet on Friday, leading to a potential flash freeze for locations that receive rainfall.
Along with the drop in temperature, strong and possibly damaging winds along with heavy snow is expected on Friday.
Environment Canada says that while there is high confidence in a high impact winter storm, the details regarding wind speeds, precipitation types and amounts remain highly uncertain at this time.
We will continue to track this weather system as it approaches our area.
