For visitors heading through St. Thomas on their way south for a day in Port Stanley, they might wonder what those railway tracks are as you pass Parkside Collegiate Institute.
They belong to Port Stanley Terminal Rail which, for over 30 years, has been operating tourist excursion trains from the harbour in the lakeside community north into St. Thomas.
It’s a hidden gem operating on the tracks of the former London & Port Stanley Railway, an interurban that linked its namesake cities.
Dan Vernackt, president of Port Stanley Terminal Rail explains.
While the peak tourism season is over, the immensely popular Santa train will be hitting the rails shortly.
And then the new season launches next spring with the Easter Bunny train.
And then there are theme trips such as the music trains added this year.
Their Murder Mystery trains have proven a hit with individuals and groups, the Little Red Caboose is available for birthday parties and then there is the Entertainment & Sky Dome Dinner Train with licensed full-length vintage coaches for weddings, large family outings or corporate meetings.
