You could say it was a grand opening 18 months in the making.
In May of last year, Royal Containers announced it was moving its London operation to 400 South Edgeware Road in St. Thomas.
And 10 days ago, they officially opened their state-of-the-art facility.
Greg Marcella, vice-president of operations, explains the timing.
While Royal Containers moved their corrugated products facility to St. Thomas, it is more than a re-location. Marcella told myFM the move to the city will make for more efficient, sustainable and progressive production.
Marcella added Royal has invested more than $10 million into its new St. Thomas facility.
Royal is one of the largest corrugated packaging companies in Southern Ontario. And the move to St. Thomas involved nearly two years of planning and groundwork.
Marcella told myFM, “it’s been a great journey so far.”
Royal president Kim Nelson noted at a celebration on Sept. 9, the opening of the new facility comes with huge appreciation for their employees and customers.
While Royal was established in Brampton in 1980, Marcella stressed the importance of having a second facility to service SW Ontario.
He explains the wide range of products that are now being manufactured in St. Thomas.
And Marcella stressed the St. Thomas operation offers 100 per cent recycled and recyclable products.
He explained to myFM what the future likely will have in store at the South Edgeware location.
A priority now, stressed Marcella, is to “engrain ourselves into this community as quick as we can.”
