More than 10,000 children, adolescents, and young adults in Canada are in treatment or in 5-year follow-up for cancer right now.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and a flag-raising ceremony was held over the noon hour Wednesday at the Elgin County Heritage Centre.
Five-year-old Benjamin helped raise the flag and his mother Amber said the support is appreciated.
Elgin County Warden Mary French said the flag raising demonstrates the municipality’s support for the brave children living with cancer.
Benjamin’s mother Amber said a few precautions were initiated as he entered Grade 1.
St. Thomas will host a flag-raising ceremony 9 a.m. Monday at city hall while Jumbo will be lit up in a gold light.
Since 1974, Childcan has supported families through direct financial assistance, compassionate emotional support, proactive social programs and by funding research.
