School buses are back on the road as of today and they now have an updated lighting system.
As the bus is preparing to stop, amber lights on the front and rear will begin to flash.
Kevin Murray, branch manager at First Student Canada in St. Thomas explains how the lighting system impacts motorists.
Remember it is both dangerous and illegal to pass a stopped school bus with its red lights and/or stop arm activated.
And, unlike last September, little in the way of school bus disruption is expected this fall due to driver shortages.
Murray says with 75 routes to cover they are in pretty good shape with at least five spare drivers in the fold.
However, parents and guardians are asked to monitor mybigyellowbus.ca for information on possible cancellations and delays.
