A 35 year old London man was arrested in St. Thomas Thursday following an alleged elder financial abuse situation.
St. Thomas Police say the man is alleged to have stolen over $50,000 from his father while acting as his financial power of attorney.
Police were notified about the situation after rent at the father’s long term care facility had not been paid, with staff suspecting elder financial abuse.
An investigation undertaken by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Branch revealed that funds had been misappropriated as far back as 2020.
As a result, the 35 year old has been charged with one count of Theft by Person Holding Power of Attorney Over $5000 and later released on an Undertaking.
