It’s Volunteer Appreciation Day on 94.1 myFM presented by Williams Funeral Home.
Today we’re shining a light on five individuals who have made a name for themselves in the community by giving back through a number of great causes.
For Donna Lunn of Malahide, the premise behind Harvest Bowl is an ingenious equation. Connect surplus produce from local farmers to area food banks via a dehydration process to create a dry soup mix.
It builds on a County of Elgin initiative, explains Lunn.
Through a dehydration process, Lunn and her volunteers have developed a line of tasty soup mixes.
The soup mixes not only fill a nutritional need, but there is also an environmental benefit afforded to farmers.
As an awareness initiative, Harvest Bowl can let consumers know who is in their soup today.
Lunn is most proud of her efforts to get women counted in the census of agriculture, going back to the 1970s.
