It’s an important role and one they don’t take lightly.
Our school bus drivers not only make sure that students get to and from school safely each day, they’re also an extra ear to talk to, a shoulder to lean on and are a constant in young students lives.
And while it’s often a thankless job, First Student St. Thomas celebrated their bus drivers last week by hosting their annual BBQ.
myFM had the opportunity to stop by and speak with some of the drivers as they took in an afternoon of food and music.
They all agreed that the best part of their job is interacting with the kids.
They admit, it’s been a rough couple years navigating their role as a school bus driver in the COVID-19 pandemic. They’re hopeful that 2022-23 can bring about a more normal school year, without any restrictions in place.
While it’s evident that challenges exists in the job, the drivers note that the students make it all worth it.
Noting the effects COVID-19 had on them, Kevin Murray, Branch Manager at First Student Canada in St. Thomas thanked his team for the amazing work this year.
On behalf of local students and parents, thank you to all of our school bus drivers for the work you do!
