A family’s desire to keep their history alive will ultimately benefit the Elgin County Archives.
The McEachran families settled in the area, having arrived in Port Stanley after a long journey from Scotland in the mid-19th century.
In 1923 they held their first family reunion, a tradition that continued until 2018.
With the families dispersed across North America, the decision was made to donate Clan McEachran papers, photos and letters to the Archives along with $4,800, explains Sheila Lacroix, final clan president.
The donation includes five editions of the Clan McEachran book outlining the history and genealogy of the clan with a sixth edition in the works.
Lacroix added, the donation will assist in keeping the memory of settler families preserved and available for the public to study.
