Just days after his convincing win in the provincial election, Rob Flack, MPP-elect for Elgin-Middlesex-London says he wants to be a champion for riding constituents.
Flack, president and CEO of Masterfeeds Inc. in London, told myFM he’s anxious to begin to get things done to benefit the riding.
Flack acknowledged he has big shoes to fill after former MPP Jeff Yurek, who represented the riding for 11 years, stepped down in February of this year.
He says a priority for him once he is sworn in is to determine the status of a new elementary school promised for Belmont.
In June of 2020, then Yurek announced an $8.7 million investment in an elementary school to accommodate 345 pupils and slated to open for the 2023-24 school year.
Flack told myFM several days after his win that he has been assured the money for the new school is there.
At the announcement, Yurek noted it was the end of nearly four years of community input into rural schools.
While affordable housing and jobs are priorities for Flack, protecting rural schools is another issue he campaigned on.
Busing rural students into large urban centres is not necessarily an ideal option stresses Flack.
Flack added he wants to meet with Thames Valley District School Board officials to determine the status of the new elementary school promised for Belmont.
