It’s Future Leaders Day on 94.1 myFM presented by the St. Thomas Home Show. We are shining a light on five individuals, 25 years of age and younger who are inspiring the next generation in St. Thomas-Elgin.
For someone so young, Maddie King wears a lot of hats in our community.
Working for Andrew Gunn Consulting Inc. since summer of 2018, King assists with the development of community projects and shares the stories through young & free press, which features teenage journalists covering local news and events across southwestern Ontario.
In addition, King also serves as a consultant on the Estate of Donna Bushell, making her an integral part in the development of local initiatives such as the ‘Railway City Little Free Library’, ‘Track to the Future’ mural project and Festival as well as new ‘Westlake-Evans Civic Park’ slated to be build adjacent to the St. Thomas Public Library.
After taking a year off school to really find her passion, King credits her mentor for being a big influence in the push to pursue Communications in post secondary next year.
While communications, public relations and journalism are all avenues King is familiar with and hopes to continue pursuing, she also has a passion for politics, driving her towards a potential career in the future.
When asked what advice she has for others hoping to get involved and better their local community, King says its important to let your voice be heard.
And while she may not know exactly where her life will take her following her studies, King knows she wants to continue to make a difference.
