People living in Sudbury or Sydney, Australia can now enjoy virtual tours of the Elgin County Railway Museum.
An Ontario Trillium Foundation grant is allowing the museum to invest in its future and build valuable educational content.
The ECRM received $94,400 in funding last year and museum operations manager John Shapendonk says some of that money was used to develop virtual educational field trip packages.
The grant means greater access to the facility for those who cannot attend.
Including remote school boards, explains Shapendonk.
The funding will also be used to upgrade the online artifact collection.
myFM asked Shapendonk about the need to preserve and interpret the history of railways in Canada.
He added the enhanced virtual presence makes it more accessible to community members unable to visit the museum.
And, the museum can better engage, educate and inspire local and global audiences.
