The Elgin Ontario Health Team has announced Deanna Huggett as the organization’s first executive director.
The health teams are a new approach to health care in the province, bringing together health care providers as one collaborative team.
The province approved the Elgin team last September.
Huggett most recently was manager of implementation and quality improvement at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health.
Judith Wiley, co-chair of the Elgin Ontario Health Team says Huggett brings a wealth of experience to the health team, which will focus on respiratory disease in its first year of operation.
Wiley stresses the importance of having an OHT to serve St. Thomas and Elgin as opposed to being part of a team based in London and serving a far more extensive catchment area.
Huggett will join the team as of March 28th.
A top priority for the Elgin OHT, says Wiley, will be respiratory disease, which has a higher prevalence in Elgin than elsewhere in the province.
