The House of Commons has officially passed a motion to approve the extraordinary and temporary measures in the Emergencies Act, which Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked last week to end the “Freedom Convoy” blockades in Ottawa and at several border crossings.
Although the motion passed by a vote of 185 to 151, with the New Democrats voting in favour alongside the minority Liberal government, Elgin-Middlesex-London MP Karen Vecchio stood opposed, voting against the declaration of emergency.
Vecchio rose in the House of Commons on Saturday to make her stance on the matter known, stressing the entire country is tired.
As the voice of the people of Elgin-Middlesex-London in Ottawa, Vecchio notes it may be time to give personal responsibility back to residents.
She adds that for anyone to get what they want, people need to be willing to listen.
The measures are said to be kept in place until mid-March at the latest.
Vecchio’s entire speech in the House of Commons can be heard on her official Facebook page.
