Acclaimed last week as the PC candidate for Elgin-Middlesex-London in the June provincial election, this will not be Rob Flack’s first political campaign.
He finished second in London West in last year’s federal election, losing to Liberal candidate Arielle Kayabaga by less than 3,000 votes.
He assumed it would then be back to work as president and CEO of Masterfeeds in London.
Looking back at the federal vote, Flack noted “We gave it a real good go and moved the hill a bit. But it wasn’t meant to be for Mr. O’Toole and the Conservatives.”
If successful in the June provincial election, Flack assures area residents his constituency office will be in St. Thomas, even though he does not live here.
If elected June 2, Flack says he wants to put his leadership experience “and, hopefully, a little bit of common sense to work for the people of EML so we continue to attract investment here.”
An early inspiration for Flack when he was growing up in Streetsville, just west of Toronto, was former Ontario Premier Bill Davis, who died last Aug. 8.
Flack says the priority now is to assemble a campaign team.
Jeff Yurek resigns his seat at the end of February and Flack stresses, “The Yurek formula worked and worked well, so I don’t see why we couldn’t emulate that.”
Will Yurek be part of the Rob Flack campaign team?
While we don’t know what the status of the pandemic will be when Ontarians go to the polls June 2 ,Flack says the government does have to build a pandemic recovery plan.
Flack said it will be important to work with area mayors, the municipalities themselves and their economic development offices.
Flack stressed he is as proud and excited as he’s ever been to be in politics.
“I love that it’s my home riding. I love the ag base and that’s been my life talking to farmers and agribusinesses. I think I can bring some value to Queen’s Park.”
