Following an incident that occurred while crews were working an active fire on Malakoff Street last week, the St. Thomas Fire Department want to send out a few reminders to residents.
Chief Fire Prevention Officer Kim Destun says while their team was working the blaze, someone drove over their hoseline, endangering lives and property.
Damage was sustained to the hose as a result, however crews were able to maintain it for the remainder of the call. You are reminded to never drive over a fire hose, no matter how bad you need to get around.
Destun notes that sometimes, the sounds and sights of a fire can cause quite the stir with residents, but it’s important that we make way for those trying to fight the fire.
Another important reminder Destun says is to refrain from following a fire truck to closely.
And this one might be an obvious one, but please pull over if you see an emergency vehicle approaching.
By remembering these key details, we can help keep our firefighters safe.
