It won’t eliminate all of them, but a funding announcement this morning (Thursday) will eventually mean less students in portables at St. Anne’s Catholic School in St. Thomas.
Elgin-Middlesex-London MPP Jeff Yurek announced provincial dollars for a permanent expansion of the school opened in 2009.
Yurek added this is part of the $565 million in school funding announced earlier this week by Education Minister Stephen Lecce for new capital projects across the province.
With 14 portables, Bill Hall, vice-chairman of the London District Catholic School Board trustees stated the obvious when he noted, “St. Anne’s is bursting with students.”
Yurek announced the provincial investment will create an additional 210 student spaces at St. Anne’s.
Meantime, another Catholic school in the city may soon benefit. With substantial residential growth underway in Talbotville and Port Stanley, Yurek suggested the Msgr. Morrison student population could soon swell.
Vince Romeo Director of Education for the London District Catholic School Board advises the addition to St. Anne’s will help with current needs and help accommodate new students moving into the area.
