Liz Brown, Executive Director of Violence Against Women Services Elgin County (VAWSEC) brings something to her role that not all of us do, lived experience.
Brown started her career working with women and children in the early 90’s, and then took a variety of different paths and jobs before becoming Executive Director at VAWSEC in 2007.
She says the gift of sanctuary that she was shown in her life, impacted her heart in such a way that she continues to do the work she does.
The COVID-19 pandemic has been a struggle for all, but even more so for many families. Brown says the past 16 months have been the hardest of her career.
Over her 14 years at VAWSEC, Brown has done many things, but points to the beautiful building standing on Princess Ave as one of her proudest accomplishments.
When asked what advice she has for those hoping to make a meaningful impact in the lives of women and children, Brown had this to say.
