The STEAM Education Centre in St. Thomas has received an Ontario Community Changemakers grant thanks to the work of summer student Natalie Tyson.
Tyson, who started with STEAM back in May is no stranger to the work they do, having first hand experience working with them as a robotics team member at Parkside.
With Tyson now in her final year of her Bachelor of Early Childhood Leadership Program at Fanshawe College, she brought her love of STEAM and education together to come up with a new STEAM Family Camps idea.
Tyson took that idea and applied for the 8 80 Cities microgrant of $5,000, and was awarded 1 of just 20.
Tyson notes that with her early childhood education background, she has noticed how beneficial STEAM programs can be for kids and families.
She adds that it’s important now more than ever with the increased social isolation.
Tyson hopes to get her STEAM Family Camps up and running by October, but notes that the STEAM Centre currently offers a number of different camps and workshop kits through their website.
