With relaxation of outdoor restrictions in time for the Victoria Day long weekend, area golf courses and beaches proved popular destinations, aided by the obliging weather. The pickleball courts at Pinafore Park were buzzing with activity in St. Thomas, indicative of how the game has quickly caught on with fans of all ages. Helen Pak, president of the London Pickleball Club says dedicated players will brave winter’s cold and snow to continue to play outdoors.
Pak has high praise for the St. Thomas courts, something she is urging the City of London to emulate this year.
She adds it is more than just a game. Players are passionate about the social aspect of pickleball and that was clearly evident over the long weekend. The courts at were busy as players took full advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the sport outdoors.
Pak stressed it’s a game you can enjoy no matter your skill level.
With a new community centre under consideration for St. Thomas, Mayor Joe Preston says “we expect pickleball will be a huge part of it.”
