For Bob Patel, new owner of the Wayside Dining & Bar in Talbotville, taking over the local business also meant keeping with the traditions.
Years ago, original owners Nick and Trudy Kanellis started the Feed the Hungry initiative and with the COVID-19 pandemic and the local homelessness issue very much in the forefront in St. Thomas, Patel decided to re-start the program by supplying a free meal to those in need every Monday from noon to 1 p.m.
The Wayside team will be set up at the intersection of Talbot and Flora Streets with a different menu each Monday.
Patel adds that because of the pandemic, he wanted to do whatever he could to help out.
Today’s meal included Chana masala and rice, an Indian style dish, as well as bread, juice and a cookie.
