Today 94.1 myFM and Fanshawe College St. Thomas Elgin Regional Campus are shining a light on some of the amazing teachers we have in our community with our Excellent Educators Day.
For Jeff Clarke, current grade 6 teacher at Antler River Elementary School located on Chippewa of the Thames First Nation, being an educator is just something he’s always done.
In fact, since starting his career in 1989, he’s taught all across the globe including in Japan, Kosovo, New York, Toronto, Barrie and our course right here in our own backyard.
With all those years of teaching under his belt, we asked him what he gets most out of the experience of being an educator.
Clarke says that the biggest challenge he has as an educator, is seeing the added struggles that students who live in a First Nations community have to face each day.
But he adds that his fellow staff members continue to stay dedicated and are backed by a community of people that care and continue to work hard despite that uphill battle.
As for advice he has for any future teachers, Clarke had this to say.
“Give up your time, give up your shoulder, and give yourself everyday.”
