Today 94.1 myFM and Fanshawe College St. Thomas Elgin Regional Campus are shining a light on some of the amazing teachers we have in our community with our Excellent Educators Day.
For Heather Schnurr, teaching kindergarten students at St. Anne’s Catholic Elementary School is a case of following in the footsteps of her mother, who was also a kindergarten teacher.
Schnurr says even after 23 years in the profession, she never tires of that feeling when a child has learned something because of your efforts.
Teaching youngsters at that age is a joyous experience for Schnurr. You are going to school every day where 20 or more young people are excited to see you and be with you all day. She says “the rewards are really great.”
Even though she has taught for 23 years, Schnurr says she still has to be mindful of maintaining balance in her life.
For an individual interested in a teaching career, Schnurr has a simple piece of advice, “Go for it.” A career she embraces as “exciting.”
