Today 94.1 myFM and Fanshawe College St. Thomas Elgin Regional Campus are shining a light on some of the amazing teachers we have in our community with our Excellent Educators Day.
Cory St. Croix says his teaching career since 2015 has seen him be “a little bit of everywhere.” At the present time he would like to settle in at the elementary school level, something he is doing this year at Elgin Court Public School.
He remembers two teachers in particular who had a positive influence on him and that led to embarking on a career path grounded in education.
He notes making a positive lasting impression on students is so important as a teacher. And, when you can do that, you leave the classroom every day in an upbeat mood.
In the last couple of years, he has transitioned over to teaching at the elementary level after starting his career in front of high school students. It has been a challenge for St. Croix who feels he now has discovered his niche.
Although relatively new to the profession, his teaching abilities have allowed him see some of the world, an added bonus, observes St. Croix.
Teaching online during the COVID-19 pandemic has presented various challenges, however St. Croix says there have been positive takeaways. Most positive, he notes, is how well students have handled the transition to learning outside the traditional classroom.
He says, “I was so worried it would be tricky getting kids engaged, but my class has been in full attendance nearly every day.”
