Today 94.1 myFM and Fanshawe College St. Thomas Elgin Regional Campus are shining a light on some of the amazing teachers we have in our community with our Excellent Educators Day.
Thankfully for her students, Carolyn Cowie did not grow up close to the ocean.
Cowie, a John Wise Public School teacher has been in the game for roughly 14 years, beginning her career as a physical education teacher in London. Cowie has since had the honour to teach grades 3, 6, and 8, as well as the 7/8 split class she has this school year.
For Cowie, a huge part of her job as a teacher is the extra time she puts in a coach and mentor.
But she says that sometimes what you love doing the most can also be the reason you’re struggling in other aspects of life.
However, she says it’s the best job out there and because no two days are the same, her advice for teachers just beginning their careers is to just go with the flow.
She adds you can have your day planned out completely, but it’s never going to go the way you think or hope it will.
