Today 94.1 myFM and Fanshawe College St. Thomas Elgin Regional Campus are shining a light on some of the amazing teachers we have in our community with our Excellent Educators Day.
Amanda Marcinkiewicz has spent the past 21 years of her life dedicated to children.
The current grade 3 teacher at Monsignor Morrison Catholic School has had many students pass through her classroom, each one leaving their mark on her.
She says that’s one of the best parts of the job, getting to build relationships with not only her students, but their families.
Having spent her career teaching primary grades thus far, Marcinkiewicz says she enjoys the curriculum at that age as it’s fun for her to teach, which is a big reason why she loves her job.
As a mother to 2 of her own children, Marcinkiewicz notes the challenges that sometimes arise when trying to balance work and home life.
She adds that teachers tend to treat children in their care as their own which sometimes causes sacrifices elsewhere.
For a young person considering a career as an educator, Marcinkiewicz stresses the importance of being flexible and not being afraid to ask for help.
Having spent the last 14 years of her career at Monsignor Morrison, she adds that she has been very fortunate to be surrounded by such supportive colleagues and the greater school community.
