The Southwold Fire Department is reminding the community of the importance of yielding for green flashing lights.
The Township of Southwold has recently installed new signs to remind residents and visitors that volunteer and paid-on-call firefighters use flashing green lights while responding to the fire station when they are paged for an emergency.
Unlike continually staffed fire stations, their firefighters must first respond from home or work to the fire station, in order to respond to the scene with a fire truck and proper PPE & equipment.
Because of this, motorists are asked to yield to these flashing green lights in order to help save time in an emergency.
