Proposed home care changes in the province would dismantle public governance and oversight, according to the Ontario Health Coalition, a group that lobbies for full publicly funded health care.
Bill 175, Connecting People to Home and Community Care Act, 2020 — was introduced in February by Health Minister Christine Elliott and is supposed to streamline the way homecare services are provide.
A rally was held over the noon hour yesterday in front of MPP Jeff Yurek’s office where coalition spokesman Peter Bergmanis expressed concerns over the lack of public consultation.
Bergmanis says the new legislation would result in less protections and standards now in place for long-term care facilities, a serious concern given the spread of COVID-19 in many of those settings.
