Thanks to a major donation announced this afternoon (Wednesday), the St. Thomas Elevated Park will begin an ambitious expansion program this summer. The park is the beneficiary of a $100,000 gift through the Elgin – St. Thomas Community Foundation from the estate of Donna Vera Bushell, whose passion was the planting of trees and community building. Serge Lavoie explains one of the projects will be a new linear park running 3.5 km from the western edge of the railway bridge to Lyle Road in Southwold.
Lavoie adds work on the planting of trees is expected to start right away. In addition, the elevated park will work in partnership with the St. Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre to add new art installations at the park and along the trail as part of the ‘Art, Trees & Trails’ project.
