A brilliant splash of colour now welcomes visitors arriving in St. Thomas at the west end of Talbot Street. It’s an image of Ann’s Snack Bar, St. Thomas artist Clark McDougall’s 1964 snapshot of life along the west end.
It has recently been installed on the north wall of the city’s social services and housing hub at 230 Talbot Street. City manager Wendell Graves met with Laura Woermke, executive director of the St. Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre, to determine an appropriate piece of art for the exterior of the building.
It’s a digital reproduction of the original work for which the art centre holds the copyright. Graves adds there has not been an official ceremonial opening of the building yet and that would be an appropriate time to dedicate the McDougall mural.
