Her story is one, not only of inspiration, but of overcoming obstacles that would have seemed insurmountable to many others. Reta Ismail was the guest speaker at last night’s International Women’s Day celebration at the St. Thomas Elgin Public Art Centre. Ismail and her family were forced to flee war-torn Iraq and spend three years as refugees in Greece. Her media career began while still attending high school in Hamilton. Today she is a weather anchor and videographer at CTV London. That remarkable journey from war zone to on camera is something she never takes for granted.
Ismail stressed the need to support each other, and always applaud a woman you see succeeding.
For the close to 100 in attendance, she reminded them of the importance of celebrating the success of other women.
