Today myFM is celebrating local coaches and the impact they’ve had on athletes in Elgin County with our Hooray for Coaches Day feature, presented by Briwood Farm Market.
We spoke with Allison Fish who coaches the Atom C team in the St. Thomas Panthers Association. Fish first got involved in coaching 3 years ago when her daughters’ team was in need of a coach.
Fish says that as a coach for young girls, she feels its important for them to have a female role model on the ice with them.
We asked Fish if she had any advice for other parents or volunteers thinking about stepping up and coaching and she said although it can sometimes be challenging, it is very rewarding.
Fish says over the past 3 years her teams have had some big accomplishments such as big tournament wins and a provincial birth but the biggest reward for her as a coach is seeing the girls she coached in the past, coming back the next season and enjoying their time on the ice.
