St. Thomas City Council is helping you get home safely and not have to worry about leaving your car on the street overnight on New Year’s Eve. Council approved making transit free from 8:15 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 3:15 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Council also approved lifting the overnight parking restrictions on New Year’s Day.
The transit buses may be running on slightly different routes as a trial of Demand Responsive Transit routes was suggested to council. City Engineer Justin Lawrence says that the night may be a great opportunity for them to test 3 buses on the DRT routes.
DRT routes will be one of the recommendations that will be included in the upcoming Transit Strategic Plan.
Mayor Joe Preston supported the DRT idea and says that it could be a great chance for them to increase the education on DRT to their users.
