As the kids go back to school, this might be the perfect time to think about heading back yourself. The YWCA St. Thomas- Elgin will be offering “Skills Training & Upgrading” programs that provide training to adults who wish to upgrade their skills if they haven’t received their high school diploma or wish to receive better employment opportunities. These programs will provide the necessary skills in order to pass courses to receive a grade 12 diploma, pass a GED test or upgrade credits to move onto post secondary studies or apprenticeships. Training can also be provided in areas such as money managing, reading documents, writing reports, and using a computer.
Each person who applies will be given a personalized training plan based on their goals. These programs are funded by the Province of Ontario and are free to adults who are over the age of 18 and have been out of school for at least 1 year.
These programs will be offered in both St. Thomas and Aylmer beginning on September 9th but because the courses are a continuous intake, you are able to start whenever you feel ready. For more information or to register for one the courses, you can call the YWCA at 519-631-9800.
