NIGHTLY COMMEMORATION CEREMONIES BEING HELD
11/7/2018 4:31:23 PM

A "Week of Commemoration" is taking place in St. Thomas at the Veterans Memorial Garden. The 15 minute ceremony is being held each night at 6:45 p.m. leading up to Remembrance Day in honour of the 100th anniversary of the armistice that ended World War One.

The ceremony features a bugler performing the last post, 2 minutes of silence, the reveille and the act of remembrance.

Ceremony Coordinator Member Gordon Mathers says while people often think of the soldiers that died in the war for our freedoms and rights, there was more to it than that.

Mathers says that the organizing group are all currently serving, have served or have relatives that have served.

Mathers says that residents have stopped when the ceremony has started.

The group is hoping to make the week an annual tradition in St. Thomas.

The ceremony is open to everyone.
