MAN CHARGED FOR ATTEMPTING TO OPEN FRAUD BANK ACCOUNT

A St. Thomas man has been arrested after he allegedly attempted to open a fraudulent bank account with stolen identification on Monday (September 10). Police say that the man attended the CIBC on Talbot Street and tried to open an account and get a credit card.
          
Bank staff contacted police as they quickly realized that the identification did not match the man.
     
Police arrived on scene and engaged in a short foot pursuit before taking him into custody after locating the man hiding under a vehicle.
       
The man has been charged with one count of possession of stolen property, obtaining credit by fraud and one count of escaping custody.
     
He was held overnight for court.
